Point Comfort: March.. 28: 1693:

Honored Sr:

In my passage from James Town to St: Maryes in Maryland wheither
I am just now bound: I mett with Captain Bayley Commander of the Betty
vpon whom I haue sent you a large letter of the 14th: instant and
two Panthers skins directed for you to Mr Henley. I inclosed an
account of money due to their Majesties vpon the third part of seizures
made in these plantations: That Article of 3 pipes of Brandee seizd
by Collonell Cole I could not then perfect, but since by his letter in
answeare to mine he writes me as follows. the brandee was full
but 2 pipes & halfe containing in all 300 gallons at 5d [er Ga;;pm
& charges being deducted: amounts to 21 : 10 ; 1: a third:
besides 6lb: 10 : 10d : their Majesties third of a small ketch called the Maryland
Snowhill merchant of Maryland. seized by Captain Roe in the yeares 1688 in
Collonell Birds hands also: I haue not further to do at present in
this Government hauing setled all matters with the Collectors. & perhaps too
much with Collonell Custis: for not a few & not of the least Ranke are
not pleased that I haue made so strict a search with him. the
provinciall court sitts the 6: Aprill at St. Maryes. Collonell copley
has buried his Lady. Collonell Richard Lee formerly of the Councill in
virginia has taken The oathes & admitted to his place in the
Councill. his Excellence is very well: I know not what the Councill
do : people are much dissatisfied to heare no ships are coming
from England heither : with my humble seruice to Mr Povey I am
