Jamaic Maryland

Mr. Blathwait   Maryland the 14th July 1679

I was very happy to Receiue your letter of the 1st January, which brought me
a Coppy of the Inquiries I desired; for which I returne you my kind thanks,
and should be glad of a good occation to Serue you either here or Elsewhere;
I haue for your diuertisment heer inclosed a Coppy of an act of Assembly
lately past in Virginia for theire security against the Incursions of the northern
Indians, who dayly infest them and Causeth me to apprehend some mischeifes
from them; but as yet maryland hat receiued noe preiudice by them. You
may please to remember, that I left with you some papers relateing to a
peace made by maryland with the northern Indians, and made for the Inhabit
tants of Virginia as well as for Maryland; it is with these Indians they
now haue all this trouble; that peace being Violated the last summer by some
indiscreete or rather mad men of that collony. it would be to long to giue
you the whole relation of this buisnesse, and therefore will referr that vntill
I haue the happinesse to see you; By these acts I herewith send you it
may be perceiued, here they precipitate theire buisness, takeing noe vey great
Care in the penning of theire laws, many things being mentioned in this great
Law for the defence of theire Collony, which in my oppinion, noe wise becomes
the Grandeur of an act. But perhapps I may haue gon to farr, and giuen
you to much trouble for which I begg your Pardon, and that you'll beleiue
me to be as by many obligations I already am made by you

Deare Sir
your most affectionate freind & Seruant
C. Baltemore

my most humble seruice to Sir Robert
Southwell and his Lady I would haue writt
to him but that I apprehended it might
haue giuen him to great a trouble
