piscafoway the 13th of September 1679

This day five weeks I came from New York where I left
all worry well fo settle things in those Eastern party
recovered from the Indians, which I have done as farr as
black point (wish of Richmond Island) possessed by Boston,
at that time, and where I now found an Officer or Comissioner
appointed AND settled by them. I hope some Comissionee will
bee sent to settle or make a full Report of all things in those
parts which may then be made considerably advantageous to
the King AND Kingdome particularly by masts plentifully
to be had for the bigest Shipps; But by reason of the
many pretended propries for clameing rights to past
tracts of land, there hath not beene hitherto Eastward of
this River, Inhabitants or Cattle to work out war, Except
lately at Rowsick in Kinebeck where Major Clark had
made a beginning (destroy’d by the Indians, but withall
ingrossed to himselfe by splendid nights almost that whole
Country, of which one Tract along the Waterside of 60
miles, & soe up into the Country. I have no laid out, 32
Sa__, the beginning of a small Towne at pemaqued; and
consorted & ordered the bible upon the Southern end of
Rowsick Island never yett improved, & appointed Officers
there, & also in Casco Bay to Black point, hills further

order, which cost as all the rest of our Cost to the Indians, were
by Boston brought under them, & now seeme to be against
Sedainty and all claymed as purchased by mr Usher of ms
George which amazes most in those parts, for the consequence,
if so allowed.

This is in hast being putt into this River by contrary Winds &
bad weather where I mett with this conveniente by a Mast
Shipp the Mock Captaine peck Comaunder, ready to Saile,
The Remissness of Government particulars before this &
Kenebeck, or to Indians had againe made them a busciue &
in solent, which occationed my now coming without further
delay & I hope may STRIKE will be made more Orderly, or I think
may be made so_
