Jamaica September 20th 1694

Sir

I am wonderfully obleiged to you for yours of the
20th and 24th of Aprill as to Mr Battertons Case I
would not nor Did I concerne myselfe I the matter
when the Act was made tho I Confess Atturney
Generall Brodrick told me I was named in the Power
who had also my Leave to make use of my Name
in the Suite but it being a matter of money I would
not be concerned in Company with Esquire Broderick be=
cause I would not be Lyable for money another
might receive : I am alltogether a Stranger to the
Severall concerns of Sr ffraancis Wattsons Estate but
I allways concluded that the Act was made upon
a defect agreement betwixt Esquire Brodrick and
Collonell Lowe and that all was Dun by his Consent and
agreement otherwise the Act would not have passed
heer I shall Doe all that Mr Batterton desires of
me in his Letter and any thing Else you Shall at
any tyme Command me As to Madd. Hughs hir
affaires I have Shipped o accountt of hir two Daghters
out of hir personall Estate the Inventory whareof
is heer Inclosed 12 hogsheads of Sugar amounting to per
Invoyce Sent them £170: 16: 00 ¾ I have Sold Some
of Mr Poveys Land and have made an agreement with
Mrs Haines but want Some advice from Mr addis
about his parte yett Intend to Shipp Mr Poveys
parte when I receive the money the rest of the
Land will not Sell untill Jamaica is in a better
Condition which will never be without a great Supply
of men and Shipps of Warr and that must be
Speedy to Save the Island to their Majesties

Our Governor has had a very troublesome tyme
of it Ever Since he came he has Dun all that Ever
man could Doe to Obleighe Major Lloyd and Captain
Broderick and yett they continue angery with
him and Its to be feared Shew it in England more
than they Doe heer but this is not a Concerne of
