[Recto]

Whitehall the 10 May 1701

Sir

Just as I was dispatching my last Letter to you
with my Deputation, we received the News of the Death
of the Earl of Bellamont, And at the same time there
came to my hand a Letter from Mrs. Cortland, which
containing great Complaints of hard Usage, I have
thought fit to send you & the Lieutenant Governor Copys of
it, And as her Husband was long my Correspndent &
Deputy, and behaved himself very fairly & honestly
in that Trust, I cannot but recommend the Widow
to you, that She may be relieved according to the
Justice & Equity of her Case, as to her Books of
Accompts & Otherwise, and particularly that she
may have a Sufficient Discharge for the 300 she
paid upon my Bills for the use of the Government.
I shall not trouble you further at present, but
am

Sir
your very humble Servant

Collonell de Peyster.
