Bath 20th: November 1697
Sir
Vnderstanding by the Mayor that
you are Safely Arrived; pray give me leave
(among others your friends in these parts) to let
you know that I ^ most heartily congratulate your good
fortune therein. and return you my most
humble thankes for my Furlough, to be Absent
from my Employment & for the Recovery of my
health, being sensible it was alone procured
by your Interest & Favour, which I hope verbally
to doe by the End of the next weeke
Thursday last was spent here in Rejoyceing
for his Majesies safe return, which Filled the hearts
of all his good subjects in this Citty with all
Alacrity & Cheerfullness Imaginable, as was
signalized, by all the vsall publick ways of
Duty, and Affection this place was Capable off,
and in the Evening Mr. Mayor, Justices & other
of the best Rank, mett again at my house, to
drinke his Majesties health, where yours was very perticulary
remembered

with many other kind Expressions for your
continued freindship, to the Corporation ^ which I hope they &
I shall ever take care to preserve. I remain
