Sr.

The letters I intended to send by way of Bilbo : I haue sent by Vir
ginnia in regard they haue laid an Embargo vpon all ships in
this port bound for Europe for as long tyme as they please: here
are 2 good ships ready for England wee haue all wrote to be sent
as his Majestie has ordred in his letter of the 30th. of July: but no notice
taken of it they will delay till they haue an account of the
fate of the affaires in Ireland: & treat vs accordingly. Mr Mather
did write to them in his letter of which you haue a part printed
that so soon as his Majesties affaires suceeded in Ireland the Earl
Danby M : Hallifax Sr. Robert Southwell you & others who
vnderstand the New England Banter will be remoued from Court
& then they will haue a faire feild to do their busines.

his Majesties Letter of the 12 of August answeares the end of a charter
they raise 7 Rates & halfe vpon this Colony amounts to 10000lb
6 for to defray the souldiers sent out by them this last Summer
& 1 rate & ½ to defray the Charge of their Agents: nothing
yet concluded vpon of our going to England they hold a Court
of Assistants in Boston haue condemnd one man to be hangd
another to be burnt in the hand : & all to affright the people to
pay their Rates: not one penny towards the charge of Sr. Edmunds
winter Expedition nor to the Souldiers abroad with him. because
they were raised by an vnlawfull Authority: to let the world
know they are in earnest, they haue little respect for the
Crown. for the Constables Staues are altred from the Kings
Armes: with: I:R: to W:R: & now to an Indian painted vpon
their old ones as was vsed in the tyme of their Commonwealth.
Gouernment with Brasse vpon the head. Mouns Perott former
Gouernor of Nova Scotia: has is returnd & has finished a large
& strong fortification at Port Royall: the inclosed from
Mr Courtlandt giues an account of the miserable condition
of the people in New York Government Mr Riggs has stayed here some
tyme onely for a passage & cannot be permitted to proceed his
voyage by reason of the Embargo my humble seruice to Sr Robert
Southwell & Mr Povey I am Sr your humble Servant
