The complaints of Sr Henery Ashurst
And Mr Taylor against the Gouernor
of the Province of New hampshire
Sr. Henery sayeth there haue not bin a due care taken
to preserue the province from the Indians inasmuch
as diuers men haue bin kild and Others disturbed
in theyr imployments which haue impouershed
the province to that degree that they are not able to suport
the Gouernment
Answer that Sr William Phipps makeing a Seperatt
Peace with the Indians in the prouince of mayne and
at same tyme drawing his forces out of the said province
of mayne through which the Indians must pass before
can cum into the province of New hampsir which gaue
the Indians an opertunity to Surprize them at
Oyster Riuer where they kild about 30 and Carryed
away about 60 prisoners and that only occassioned
by the vnfayer Action of Sr William Phipps
against whose conduct we haue a just reson to
complaine and not they against vs
which to prevent for tyme to com the Province
of New hampshire haue Raysed men and mony
and are as capable defending the province as the
the mathsuetts are theirs and for euery man
that haue bin lost inthe province of New hampshir
this warr [illegible] its said thay haue Lost 40, since
Allen haue bin Gouernor the cuntry haue bin much
aduanced by the commers euery thing being vallued
worth allmost double
Mr Taylor haue noe Reson to complaine of his not
being able to performe his contract with the King in as
much as all the Shipps he haue sent to the province
of new hampshire haue Returned full Loaden
